BARC wins over Arrows

In a blustery day, that saw a tale of two halves, BARC was able to come out on top against the Houston Arrows.

The match started off with Bay Area facing a stiff headwind and the Arrows put it to good use. Within the first 2 minutes BARC was penalized inside their own 22, giving the Arrows the opportunity to strike first. A kick for goal put the Arrows up 3-0. The Arrows were able to put up two more converted tries before BARC was able to get on the scoreboard. Down 17-0, BARC's first trip into the Arrow's 22 was successful. With Hooker Ian Bonner scoring a well worked forward try. The conversion was unsuccessful into the stiff wind. BARC now trailed 5-17. The last play of the half saw the Arrow's win their lineout and send the ball through the hands across the pitch, eventually ending in the try zone for another converted try. Halftime score BARC 5 - 24 Arrows

The 2nd half had the wind at the backs of the men from Bay Area and they took full advantage of it. On the opening kickoff a misplayed ball by the Arrows went out the back of the try zone, setting up a 5-meter scrum to BARC. A penalty from the scrum was quickly taken and capitalized on, as BARC's 8-man Kurt Fickessen dotted down under the posts for a try. The conversion was again missed putting the score 10-24. A yellow card for high tackle put BARC up a man for 10 minutes and they took advantage quickly. Flyhalf Alec Stevens made a darting run to score, and the successful conversion made it 17-24. BARC continued to dominate the scrums throughout the 2nd half. A few minutes later Fullback Jason Molina brought the match to a tie with a try and conversion. Both sides continued to rack up numerous penalties, and BARC was awarded a penalty try when the Arrows prevented Scrumhalf Jason Reverendo from taking a quick tap at the 5 meter mark. This put BARC in the lead for the first time in the match, up 31-24. The Arrows were able to finally get on the front foot and some poor tackling allowed them to score. The conversion was unsuccessful into the stiff wind, leaving BARC victorious on the day. Fulltime BARC 31-29 Arrows.
